Why go
Port Ludlow is about 8 miles south of Blue Mountain Retreat — roughly 15 minutes on SR 19. It is a Jefferson County master-planned community on Ludlow Bay: residential neighborhoods, a boutique inn, a 300-slip marina, and an 18-hole golf course with views of Hood Canal, the bay, and the Olympics.
If someone in the group wants to walk a dock, play a round, or eat with a water view, this is the closest place that feels like a resort. Then you come back to 20 acres and 25 beds.
Once you’re there
The marina sits on Ludlow Bay with about 300 slips, guest moorage, a marina store, kayak and SUP rentals, and a shuttle up to the golf course. Yacht clubs use it as a rendezvous. You do not need a boat: walking the docks, sitting on the bay, and dinner at the waterfront restaurant is the usual land-side visit.
Port Ludlow Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course designed by Robert Muir Graves. Fairways roll through woods and historic logging stumps with views of Hood Canal, Ludlow Bay, and the mountains. JR’s Sand Trap is the bar and grill at the course. Book a tee time before you promise the group a round — this is a real course, not a putting green at the house.
The community is a planned resort: neighborhoods, the Inn at Port Ludlow, The Fireside restaurant on the bay, a village store, and more than 30 miles of trails. It is quieter and more residential than Port Townsend. Short-term rentals of private homes are restricted in most of the master-planned area; the inn and marina zone are the lodging on-site. That is why a 25-person reunion still sleeps at Blue Mountain Retreat.
Port Ludlow is also a useful southbound stop if you came off the Hood Canal Bridge or Kingston ferry and want a bathroom, a snack, or a look at the water before the last miles to 516.

Quieter trails and bay walks. The course stays open year-round when weather allows. Wet docks and short daylight are normal.

Trip notes
Drive time from Blue Mountain Retreat: about 15 minutes · ~8 miles.
Then come back
The inn and marina are built for couples and small groups, not a 25-person reunion kitchen. Blue Mountain Retreat is 15 minutes north: 6,500 sq ft, exclusive use, woods and a field.
Play golf or walk the docks once. The rest of the week the acres, playrooms, and the Chimacum–Hadlock grocery loop do the work.
